Young Rabbit in Spring

Hand embroidered on to vintage French linen, this little bunny was a constant garden visitor last spring.  He was such a tiny soul, all soft fur and bright, questioning eyes, and it's been fun to catch him in stitch. The linen has been hand-dyed with carrot tops, which seemed appropriate for a baby rabbit, and he's framed in a vintage oak frame with old glass and gold slip. The quote is from Walter de la Mare's poem "As I Was Walking".

I create my embroideries by layering tiny stitches in a loose long and short stitch, my aim is to create the depth and texture of the fur or feathers of the animal or bird I'm studying. I also use satin stitch, French knots, stem stitch, split stitch, and rollover stitch for foliage and text.

With over sixty hours of stitching before hand stretching over acid free card to extend longevity, and framing in its vintage frame, this piece is intended to be enjoyed not only today but by future generations too.  

Do ensure you display embroideries out of direct sunlight, as if placed there they may fade.

The frame measures 9.75 inches (24.5cm) x 13inches (32.5cm) and the picture aperture 6.25 inches (16cm) x 9.5 inches (24cm). It comes with its original hook for hanging, and with a certificate of authenticity.
